- Does a small business really need to worry about marketing that much?
You’ll probably be aware of the startling fact that 4 out of 5 small businesses in the UK fail.
It doesn’t matter if you are the best Landscape Gardener in your area, or your Shop sells the best ‘Widgets’, without effective marketing your small business is doomed.
I would suggest the reason that 1 in 5 small businesses DOES succeed is because they were the ones who adopted sound marketing strategies from the beginning.
If you underestimate the importance of effective marketing in your small business then the statistics don’t bode well for the future of your business. Marketing is not really an option, it’s a necessity.
- What type of small business do you work with?
- In short, my strategies will work for virtually any business in any sector. There are some differences in which strategies I will recommend if your business targets other businesses or consumers but I can help businesses in either category.
- I only have a small marketing budget so can you still help?
The majority of my Clients started using my services with a relatively modest marketing budget so the short answer to this question is yes.
Many of my Clients have businesses which have grown substantially in recent years and consequently, now have much larger marketing budgets that they spend with me. I take the view that if I can help your business grow then you will have greater funds and confidence to increase your budget over time.
- How long will you work with me for?
It depends on two factors. Firstly, the strategy you are using and secondly, how much support you need.
In some instances, I can simply set you up with a particular strategy and once you’re comfortable applying that strategy, you’ll be able to move forward with minimal involvement from me.
Other strategies are more long-term and I will help you from start to finish.
Because every small business will have significantly different needs, my service is highly adaptable to provide as much or as little support as you need, over whatever period of time is necessary.
- What is a Marketing Mentor and is it a service you provide?
A Marketing Mentor provides ongoing support and marketing advice to a business based upon their specific needs. Marketing Mentors are usually paid a monthly retainer to be ‘on-call’ for any marketing help your business needs rather than you paying for a specific marketing service like a website or sales letter which are one-off costs.
Another way to look at a Marketing Mentor is that you’ll have help and guidance on-tap like you might already have with other professionals that your business uses. For example, if you need help or advice with accounting issues then you’ll call or meet with your Accountant. If you need help or advice with any aspect of your marketing then you’ll be able to simply pick up the phone or arrange a meeting with your Marketing Mentor.

- Are you able to help start-up businesses?
Absolutely – in fact, getting help with your marketing right from the beginning will have a huge impact on how your new venture fares in the future.
There are certain fundamental marketing elements that are very difficult to change once a business is already trading (such as the business name). If you have solid marketing foundations on which to build your business, the chances of your business becoming a success are significantly greater.
